I tried the same thing. I tried both formats, no joy. I have realplayer installed. The I installed then mplayer plugin. I am now getting audio, but no video.

I got that for a while.

Check your preferences for the BBC media player then choose xine instead of Mplayer (that did the trick for me)

What is your mplayer video output selection? Mine is set to x11 and works great. Open the configuration by right clicking on the mplayer window while it is playing to see and modify your current settings.

Interesting, but they are not opening in the mplayer plug-in and it is not available for me to select when I tried to reset that file type.
