Can't get sound playback

I am having trouble getting sound to play. I have a soundblaster audigy sound card.

I have installed mp3 support. Amarok looks like it is playing but I can't hear anything. I'm sure this is a common problem but I searched around and couldn't figure out what to do.

Anyone have a suggestion what i should do first to get sound working?

This is my first day using linux and kubuntu so please give a detailed answer, if I was able to find a walkthrough on troubleshooting this I would have used it.
