    Burning Woes

    Hello all,

I'm having a problem with my CD/DVD burner. When I put in a blank CD, it just spins it for a while and does nothing - the cdrom isn't even noticed by Kubuntu. Upon opening K3b, it tells me that it cannot find a CD or DVD burner in my computer and lists available hardware as ATAPI DVD-ROM 16x even though my burner is an MSI DVDRW 16x.

How would I go about 'helping' my computer to recognise the drive? It's on an IDE cable if that makes any difference and I've been googling for MSI linux firmware with no helpful results

    Thanks,

    SM

First, open Kmenu>System Settings>Advanced>Drives&Filesystems, as Administrator and see what it says about your CD/DVD drive. Is it "enabled"?

No, it's disabled. When I insert a CD it does flick to enabled though.
