help!!! cant log in!

i set up kubuntu a few weeks ago, and i have been using it ever since. i love it. i d/led a few torrents (slackware/fedora/gentoo) to test out other distros on my smaller laptop HD, however now i cant log in! i know im using the correct user name and password, as im not given the incorrect message. it just goes through a loop and brings me back into the log on. any ideas? i just want to be able to save the torrents, as i am not going to be able to download them at school...

When you are in the log page: Press Ctrl + Alt + F1 (or F2...6)
Do you get "login:" text ?

yea, i can log into the termanal just fine. is there anyway i can boot up KDE from the terminal?

You could type:

startx

If you have another graphical window up and running, you need to stop it first:

sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop

This works if your system is ok !

thanks much, will give that a go. i figure if i can log into the terminal, the system should be fine. at least i hope. i dont think i really f-ed it up, as i didnt do anything strange in my last session, i just bumped a bunch of keys trying to log in one day (thats when it started).
