    Login Problem

    Hi to all,

    I've installed kubuntu 7.04 with the wubi installer, now I know under other circumstances
    i.e live CD you are asked to create a password and username, however this was not the case
    with the wubi install, and I've also read about sudo, which at this stage from my point of view is just
    well you can imagine, so at the moment I'm stuck and I would at least like try this out.

    I have no direct experience of Wubi, but I will try.

    The Wiki talks about installing Wubi and using the iso. I conclude therefore that you install Kubuntu yourself.

    Did you by any chance use the oem install You would have been better to use the text install.

    The oem install won't ask for a username or password. Try username: oem and password: (either) oem (or) [blank]. The oem install is not complete until you open a terminal and issue the command
    sudo oem-config-prepare
    This will allow you to put in YOUR username and password and remove "oem".

        Hi

        Thanks for your replys, I have now taken this up with the Wubi forums as you have pointed out,
        but just for general information, the Wubi installation does everything no user intervention is required, which I think is the problem.

          I have never tried wubi but if I look at this:

          it seems to ask you to set a username and password.

          I don't think you can do much in the way of partitioning, etc. as you can with the live or alternate (my favorite) cd.
          So I suppose if you are using the whole HD (minus windows) and don't want a separate partition for /home, /, etc. it probably is viable.

          I would go the classic cd way, but that is a matter of choice

                Hi Fintan,

                Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your comments and considerations under the circumstances, but at the moment I'm wondering if this possible change to Linux is the right move, as I'm now stuck trying to mount my other storage devices which previously windows would have done for me, I'll try and stick with it as long as I can.
