Install Ardour on Kubuntu

I have installed kubuntu 6.06, and want to install Ardour, could someone please give me an idiot proof guide to doing this?

I have activated the universe repository, but still can't get it to install.

I get Install(break) in adept or in the command line I get:

sudo apt-get install ardour-gtk
Password:

Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

ardour-gtk: Depends: libglib1.2 (>= 1.2.0) but it is not installable
Depends: libgtk-canvas1 (>= 0.1.1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgtk1.2 (>= 1.2.10-4) but it is not installable
Depends: libgtkmm1.2-0c2a but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

same for ardour-gtk-dbg and ardour-gtk-i686.

Any help please!!!

Have you tried to update your package list?

$ sudo apt-get update

I have now, still no joy.

I get very similar errors for numerous packages (apache,audacity ect.)

Do you get any error when you try to update the repos?

If you don't, the next logical step will be to upgrade to the actual packages.

$ sudo apt-get upgrade

And finally, can you post here the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
