    K Mail

    I'm trying to set up Kontact K-mail, in the account set up screen it asks for HOST, what is that and how do I obtain it?

    Re: K Mail

    Your Internet provider (host) will have given you some details on how to setup your email account.
    Usually it will read something like pop.something.something

    So in kmail and for host you put your mailserver address. say if you have a pop account you would write something like either:
    pop.youremailserver
    mail.youremailserver
    or
    youremailserver

    So if your emailaddress is : chet2nd@xxyyzz.com then youremailserver is xxyyzz.com.

    The same applies to your outgoing server=smtp.xxyyzz.com (or whatever your hosting service defines for that.)

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

      Re: K Mail

      is it possible to configure kmail for web based e-mail such as yahoo? Including my school e-mail account I have 3 accounts it'd be cool to have them all download to the same window. It'd make it alot easier to check too.

        Search on Yahoo! Mail help, it's perfectly possible, but you need to change a setting through the webmail client.

          KMail | Settings | Configure KMail | Accounts | Add

          As long as the additional accounts you wish to add are one of the listed types, it should be as simple as that. In almost any decent email client, you can have multiple 'incoming' accounts, but only 'one' outgoing account.

              I use Kmail/Kontact with 4 accounts w/seperate inboxes. I have also used Thunderbird with these account but prefer Kontact.

                How did you set that up without filtering, etc.?

                  Multiple POP and SMTP Accounts in kmail:

                  Creating Accounts:
                  POP: Configure KMail>Accounts>Receiving-tab>Add
                  SMTP: Configure KMail>Accounts>Sending-tab>Add

                  Separate inboxes for pop accounts:
                  Configure KMail>Accounts>Receiving-tab>Modify>Destination folder

                  Separate SMTP settings (+ separate sent/draft/template folders etc.):
                  Configure KMail>Identities>Modify>Advanced-tab>Special Transport

                    Thanks i always had to user filters. Now for my big question:
                    Lets say I have a /data partition formated in fat32 and would like to setup a kontact folder with my mails, kontacts, kalender, setups, configs, etc. so it can be read from Kontact on my feisty, gutsy, pclinux installs?

                    In TB I can set my "setup" or local folder from say /home/suername/thunderbird/whatever to /data/email/emailaccount.

                      Haven't done it, but editing ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc
                      [General]
                      folders=$HOME/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail

                      to something like
                      folders=/data/mail

                      should do it...I think
