Most (not: all) of the "news" produced at boot time are filed in /var/log/dmesg - until reboot.

When I typen dmesg in konsole, I found there this bug

      Look:

      [ 17.410336] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[ 17.410385] ...trying to set up timer (IRQ0) through the 8259A ... failed.
[ 17.410388] ...trying to set up timer as Virtual Wire IRQ... works.

I'd try to (re-) boot with the noapic option (further reading).

Thank you for your help! It seems that mouse is working fine now! But I did not understand what actually happened when I used noapic

That's the joy and the mystery of running Linux. Sometimes things are done to "make it work," and there may be no real good answer as to "why it did." That isn't always the case mind you. There will always be a technical answer "some where" but ...

What does appear to be a continuing theme with laptop install problems, is (some version of) APM (Advanced Power Management) that most (all?) laptops come with, either via BIOS settings or otherwise "hard coded."
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.
