I used to have Ubuntu 7.04 and if a codec is missing there is usually a popup window that reccomends the one(s) needed. If you want a player that can play almost anything try downloading vlc media player. As for the ntfs problem I'm not expert enough to help you there .Try searching for "cannot mount ntfs partition" on google and Ubuntu forums I know other peple have asked that question before. good luck!!!

Or, you could download automatix2 and install the missing codecs. The website is: http://www.getautomatix.com/ Please, enjoy

Info links to help:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/index.php

There are links here to mount windows add software etc.

http://medibuntu.org/

This should help with codecs.

good luck

Edit: personally I would stay away from automatix. It may be fine for you but several people report problems after the install.

You could type about:konqueror in the address bar it you haven't already changed it. Her you can find the documentation link. It has alot of info to get you going. If I remember correctly the how-to for mounting and writing to NTFS is there.

I've tried automatix (it has a bad rep) and I don't see any advantage to installing anything with it over synaptic package manager I don't know if Kubuntu 7.04 has it but if not but you can get it with adept. I ran across this earlier and hope it can help with ntfs;

If you will set up the Medibuntu repository as instructed on the "Repository How-To" here, that will take care of the audio codecs stuff, and if you will download and use the Envy video driver installer from here that will take care of the Nvidia or ATI driver, and you're left with not much need for Automatix, IMHO.

now i found all these partitions but if i try to open one it says you dont have enough permissions to read i want to read and write the ntfs. if i found another format allow me to make as big as i want i'll make all these partitions. if i could make all my partitions ext and could make 20 or 40 giga for each partition and if i cooould save my work and files like songs and movies to it i'll format all partitions to ext but can i do all these??

Probably you want the package ntfs-3g. Once installed, run ntfs-config to set it for reading and writing internal drives. Good luck!

Re: new in kubuntu & cannt do any thing help plz

Yup. You have a syntax error in your sources.list file. Until it is corrected, apt-get and/or Adept won't be able to run, as both depend on being able to read/load the sources.list.

The incorrect line is identified: line 48, which is also identified to you as:
'http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...u.com/ubuntu/'

At this point, an easy fix is to edit /etc/apt/sources.list as 'root' and delete that line. Save and reopen Adept.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
