Open Office is getting wrong date format in Edgy

I've set the date format to DD.MM.YYYY in system settings. But Open Office keeps on using the illogical DD/MM/YYYY format, for instance, when I insert a date field into a footer in a text file. Where is it getting that and how do I get it to use the format I want?

I have looked in Open Office help and can't find the answer.

    Thanks.

Supposedly, Open Office (i.e. Tools | Options | Language Settings | Languages | Locale Settings) is referring to KDE's settings accessible e.g. my means of [Alt][F2] kcontrol > Regional & Accessibility | Country, Region & Language ...(?).

kcontrol shows the same thing as system settings: DD.MM.YYYY, which is what I want. Open Office's locale is set to English(USA), which is probably the culprit, but I can't see how to set it to KDE default.

What have I missed? Thanks for your help.
