odd usb mouse "failure"

i have a cheap-o Dynex usb optical mouse. i put it in, boot up kubuntu feisty fawn and as it is loading the mouse does work. i can move around the cursor and all so it is obviously being recognized. however, soon as the os has completed loading, the mouse stops working and im forced to use a classic oldies mouse. =\

any suggestions? it would be REALLY appreciated.

O.k., (more) seriously: there are lots of posts in this forum's archive indicating that "Feisty" is not exactly "well known" for getting along with usb (sorry ...).

heh, true, and i did read through many. what i find sucky here is that the mouse DOES respond up until the os has totally loaded.

oh well. worst comes to worse new mouse.

My MS Wheelmouse Optical USB mouse seems fine in Feisty. The only time I managed to blow up both my USB keyboard and mouse was when I ran glxgears in fullscreen mode. I got to use the "restart" button on the front panel of my PC that day ...

What happens if you boot the system with the 'old' mouse, and after you have your desktop, you replace it with the USB mouse?

Does your PC have any other USB devices connected during boot?

Have you tried removing it from the USB port it is in and pluging it into a new one? That should cause the USB manager to find it as a new device and cause it to be reinitialized.

I had that happen to me right after upgrading from 6.10 and the USB swap always seemed to fix it.

I got a Microsoft usb optical mouse. Sometimes when I boot it locks up. I just unplug it wait a second, plug it back in, and it works just fine.

Not sure who to blame for this Microsoft or Kubuntu Honestly, how many times will you have that situation? 8)
