Can't seem to get sound working in Feisty for VIA82xx onboard sound

Hello all! I am having an issue getting my sound working, and can not find any help that has worked. I tried everything at the Comprehensive Sound Problems Solution guide at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449 to no avail. I have VIA 82xx onboard sound and am running Feisty. I have been searching for a solution for a few weeks now and can't seem to find the answer I need. Everything seems to be recognized, and I have even tried reinstalling three times. I am lot Linux savvy...yet....and would appreciate any simplified :P help that anyone may be able to lend me.

Here is some info, still all quite foreign to me, but perhaps you can see something I am missing, which is probably the case.

Anyone who has the fortitude to read a 61 PAGE thread with 609 POSTS at our sister forum deserves a better answer than I can give. I suggest you take a look at this HowTo at linuxquestions.org. I've found it useful in the past. It doesn't really require you to recompile the kernel. That's just to discourage the faint of heart. But, you've already qualified in that regard. I never tried to wade through anything like the thread you referenced at UF.o!
