Not able to get into my Kubuntu computer after login screen

    Dear All
I need your help to know what should I do to get into my laptop (Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn release)
A couple of days ago I was working perfectly with it, I open a graphical application that crashed and forced me to directly push my laptop's power off button since there was no way to come back to the KDE interface.
Since then when I power on my laptop I can type my username and password perfectly but then a blank screen appears and don't continue doing the OS startup process.
I've tried unsuccessfully to login with failsafe mode. I've also tried in console mode and no problem here but don't know which commands should I type to bring back my laptop to normal status.
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks a lot

Re: Not able to get into my Kubuntu computer after login screen

    Steps to take:
    1) First try to reboot
    2) If it DOESN'T say it can't start the x press Ctrl-Alt-F7
    3) If it DOES say it can't start x then use the command
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
This will start a text-based wizard. Answer the questions you can. If there are questions you can't answer then go with the given default. If at first you don't succeed try again - specify VESA

Re: Not able to get into my Kubuntu computer after login screen

      Hi there
I tried your suggestion (both options) but the result has not been successful
It seems like a process stucked when login into my user session.
I've tried to logon with the same kernel version but in recovery mode (as root user) and I can see the KDE desktop, if I open a Terminal window and logon with my userid and password I can see my own folders but then if I type startx I see an error saying I'm not authorized to register a KDE.. in /home/jjcmmgb/.authoring...

If I try to logon with my user the logon screen appears, I enter my userid and password and then a Terminal window is automatically opened, nothing else, no icons, no desktop...
In one of my trials I've seen something related to DCOP server.. not sure if this meaningful for you.
      Thanks

Following the suggestion of abn91c. When you enter "startkde", it probably won't work. But you WILL be able to copy down the error message. Please post it here, and someone here will be able to interpret it for you.
