    debian problem

Hi guys . I am currently not using kubuntu but have found that this is the only forum close enough to my subject as i can get in a qucik way. I am currently using debian as i wanted to try it out. After i installed the current netinst mini iso , my mouse is not being detected. what could i do?I have a wheel mouse o[ptical usb and ps/2 compatible. If you could please help me it would be really appreciated. PS: i have tried taking the mouse out and after logging in pluging it back in. i had the same problem with pclinuxos a while back and i am sad to say it is reoccuring.

First of all, you are going to find a lot of (plain) Debian users at http://forums.debian.net/ ... from my experience, however, the folks over there are clever - but even more rude than me ...

I've tried all variants of Debian 4.0 and settled for the "complete" Xfce image and KDE image, respectively ... the smaller variants are deliberately lacking a lot of modules to be added manually as need be - which seems to be the "newbie trap" you haven fallen in, so to speak.

I'm not running Debian, but I put "mouse problem debian" in Linux Google and got 232,000 hits. The first page contains several links that I believe might address your problem.

I managed to figure nothing out so i decided to think of my own resoultion. Since i think the reason it wont work is because the kernel is too old. Also , non of my usb slots seem to work because they are usb 2.0 I think if i update everything to the latest version , it should work . am i wrong? Since debian has no latest version , i am htinking that i can put the kubuntu repo's in debian and simply upgrade . Would that work? if so , could i please know the entire list of kubuntu/ubuntu repo's?

I thought the latest release of Debian was "etch". Found here.

I don't think that will work. But here's the link to the main site.

i think you understand m hypothesis a little differently. see , i am sure that the reason my mouse wont work is because the kernel doesnt detect my usb 2.0 usb slots. As my computer is very new. Also , there is a chance that the X server is at a lower version . everything worked in the new ubuntu and i wanted to know the links to the ubuntu repositories , so i could put them in debians /etc/apt/sources.list and upgrade everyhting to the latest version(Kernel 2.6.18 to 2.6.20 , xorg , KDe , gnome and etc...I am using debian unstable branch and even that is behind the current versions of everyhting

so if you still don't quite understand it my way , i basically want a copy of what it says in your /etc/apt/sources.list you dont have to copy everyhting if you feel that it is breaking privacy or anyhting but copy everything that starts with deb or deb-src and after a link , has feisty in the words

                      Re: debian problem

Well, I don't know if this would help but you could give it a try. As most mouse problems would result from a miss configured /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, you could run your Ubuntu live cd (or any other live distro your mouse works with) and write down how it configures your mouse (or even maybe copy the entire file). Then boot into your debian and by using your keyboard go and correct your debian xorg.conf file.

                      Hope this helps

I thoguht the same thing and tirelessly worked on xorg but at a like break , i happened to have plugged in my usb key that works on every version of linux i know. And it didnt detect. I think the reason is that since my computer is new and has usb 2.0 , debian somehow can't detct the mouse. I am gonna go out today and buy a cd so i can burn an iso
