    Installing Amarok and other troubles.

Because my system was hanging everytime i used to run amarok on my KDE , I uninstalled it , now when I try reinstalling it from the adept manager , what I do is:

    1. I search for amarok. It is found under the 'non-installed' category.
    2. I see a button saying "Request install"
But the problem is , when I press it , I see nothing happening ,, no process starting nothing.

And when I try using my console , I type:

    sudo apt-get install amarok

then this is what I get as a result of the above code:

    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
Package amarok is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package amarok has no installation candidate

Pls kindly help!! how do I reinstall amarok with mp4 support
    ================================================== ==============

Re: Installing Amarok and other troubles.

Basically, jankushka is asking you to paste the contents of your apt sources file, which is in /etc/apt/sources.list, no need for command line on that one. (this is the newbie support forum, after all )

It looks like there is a problem with your sources.list file.

If you are in Feisty, you can easily check a few things from your package manager.
First, open Adept Manager, then on the main menu, go to Adept - Manage Repositories. Make sure under the "kubuntu software" section, all of the options are checked off (you can uncheck the Source Code option if you want). When you click on 'close' you will be prompted to update your packages list, so make sure you do so. Then try and install Amarok again. If it still does not work, then copy the contents of the file /etc/apt/sources.list here and we can tell you what is causing the problems you are experiencing.

Your sources.list is fine, so it could be your local ubuntu servers are having problems. I would suggest using the repositories dialog to temporarily switch to the Main server, or one from somewhere near you and try again to fetch updates.

I am basically using LAN of my institute due to which I use a proxy address , but whenevr i try to fetch updates through adept , it remains at 0% , can it be due to improper connection to the internet ??...would proxy work or not in adept??

Re: Installing Amarok and other troubles.

I have seen some reports of problems with adept/apt and proxy servers in various web searches
                  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=83401
there are some options on fixing this, none specific to Adept, but if the "apt-for-command-line" fix does not fix Adept, but apt-get works, I would suggest installing Synaptic, which has its own proxy configuration settings.

                  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ht=adept+proxy
this may work to get you going manually each time you need to update, or enough to get Synaptic installed.

Have you tried either the main servers or a different country's servers?

For now , I cant try any of the country servers , as nothing works except the proxy address we have been provided.. Tell me one thing more , I was trying to install 'wine' , I followed a procedure given on one of the blogs , they told me to search 'wine' in the adept manager , then install it ... , but my adept hasnt got wine , or even xmms , or even mplayer .... does that mean I dont have the repositories?? .. that maybe due to the problem in connecting to the internet .it hasnt been able to get the packages??...plz tell.. and what about this problem:

Because my system was hanging everytime i used to run amarok on my KDE , I uninstalled it , now when I try reinstalling it from the adept manager , what I do is:
