Hello!
I'm glad to enter this community as a new Kubuntu user! I'm really impressed by the work done with linux apps and especially the kubuntu distro!so First: thank you, you geeks who have developped such wonderful codes!
However I have some problems ...
I recently installed kubuntu Breezy i386 on my Laptop which is a Compaq Presario R3332, installation went pretty well and i ahve a running kubuntu with almost no crash, but here are some problems:
>The volume button on the right side of my computer doesn't work at all! though they worked under ubuntu breezy (which i've tried a little bit before but i definitly prefer KDE) so I guess this is solvable.
>I've installed the drivers for wifi network interface and it worked, i actually have an internet connexion through wifi, but it doesn't start with kubuntu: the driver is loaded but i have to make a
$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 key restricted **********
$ sudo ifconfig wlan up
to enable it (the light tinkle but no connexion yet) and then go in kcontrol to finally enable the connexion. a little bit annoying. furthermore I cannot change the key value in the kcontrol panel it is blocked!
I understand the problem there is with linux and windows drivers adn laptops, so i'm glad to have at least a connexion (hoping that my wifi hardare do not suffer!) but at least if someone can learn me how to write a script in order I just have to click on an icone to make the 2 command line I have to type to enable the hardware and if possible enable the interface in kcontrol (is it possible to automate that in 1 commande?) it will be wonderful!
>I also want to settle a local network with my laptop (wifi) and another pc running kubuntu also (cable) and with a routeur Netgear do you kwnow where i can find simple and efficient documentation on it ?! I 've already tried some wiki but as I want my routeur to be DHCP server i found difficult to configure it,
>I'm also looking for a way to launch 2 applications with 1click! let me explain, I've Kmail and an hotmail adresse so i've to run Mrpostman to enable this hotmail adresse in kmail. how can i do post man to launch automaticaly when i launch kmail?
>a ktorrent related problem, i launch it start so far so good but after a while it freezes, settings seems to be good...
> as many, i've problems with kcontrol super utilisateur mode time to time but overall it works and i guess it's an un solvable problem....
> another last one i've read that compaq presario R3000 have athlon 64 bit processors, is it right because mine doesn't seems to be 64 bit cause amd64 kubuntu version will not install (it says my processor doesn't support long 'something' .... )
Here we are !
I agree there are minor problems but i try to optimise and i want to improve my understanding of linux so i''ll be please to read any of your remarks and will post as well the solution i've found. By the way the documentation available is awesome (though not yet for kubuntu specific topics but i confident it will grow fast! so thank you all for this collective effort and community spirit which is to be praised!
see ya!
