Problem in booting fron kubuntu CD

    hello,
After a month i'm having ubuntu in my Virtual Box from windows, i decided to install Kubuntu in a dual boot.
when the cd is loading i'm trying to install the cd but after i'm pressing "install kubuntu" or even "check cd for defects" i see a lot of program lines and in the last of them is written -
"kernel panic: trying to kill init!" (or something like that)
and in that point the computer stuck, i cant do even ctrl-alt-del.
(i checked the cd in a new boot from my virtual box from windows and it worked fine)

    WHAT CAN I DO??

    here's a screenshot -

You may want to (re-)boot with acpi=off as additional parameter
(as well as search the forums for recent discussions on this topic).

            Hi,

When you boot the live cd you have options in the bottom F1, F2, ... In one of last you see examples and you can just add it by typing if I remember well, at least I think it's written.

            Hope it helps

Re: Problem in booting fron kubuntu CD

Press F6 then type "noapic" or "acpi=off" (without the quotes). Later on, once you have Kubuntu installed, you will have to add noapic, (assuming it works), to the kopt line in your /boot/grub/menu.lst file. You can ask how to do that once you've got your system installed.

                ok. now we're getting somewhere.

after i added PCI=off (with noapic...) as parameters i see the Kubuntu logo for 5 seconds and then the i see again command lines:
"/bin/sh : can't access tty : job control turned off
                (initramfs)"

and after this (initramfs) i can enter command (that i can see by typing "help".

anyone know how can i proceed from here??

Re: Problem in booting fron kubuntu CD

GAAAH ! Was there a typo in your previous post? I apologize for not making mayself clear. Please apply the TWO following entries ONE-AT-A-TIME in two successive boots. "noapic" (which tells the kernel that you don't have an Advanced Peripheral Interrupt Controller) and "acpi=off" (which means that you don't want to use the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface). These are two separate problems, either or both of which can happen to a PC that does not have a "Genuine Intel(TM)" mother board.

For an explanation of what's going on, take a look at this page at the Novell website. Novell may have succumbed to M$ blackmail, but they still have some very good people, there.

maybe i didn't understand you earlier, maybe you didn't understand me.

this is the first time i'm installing kubuntu (or any other linux distro').
i can't add one parameter at a time because installation occur once, not twice...
                    no??
if i add the wrong parameters (or few, in my case) the system halts (the screenshot above).

Re: Problem in booting fron kubuntu CD

If you can't get the installer to work, you can't install. If you try to use one of the suggested commands and the installer still doesn't work, then try the other. If neither command works, we'll have to think of something else.
