Two questions: Is this all happening with the alternate install disk? and Do you get a prompt like ":", (or anything else) on the line where you typed help? What I'm trying to see is whether you're actually at a DASH shell login prompt, or in the BIOS of your computer, or somewhere else.

really, thanks for your help, but i'm not going to install kubuntu any more.
if kubuntu doesn't want me - i don't want him!! >
i'll try maybe other distro's. maybe.
but that the end of my affair with (k)ubuntu.

I'm sorry that you had so much trouble with Kubuntu. Perhaps you're right that your hardware will work better with another Linux distro.
