Really dumb question - what version am I running?

I feel like such a fool posting this. I've managed to get all kinds of things accomplished, including reconfiguring my X-server for 1280x1024 support and installing a DeskJet F380 printer, but I can't find the answer for this anywhere.

How do I know which version of Kubuntu I'm running? I don't have the disk I used to install originally, and I can't remember when I installed. I tried searching, but any time I include the word "version" in my searches, I end up with a million results that are in no way related to my query.

In Konqueror, navigate to /etc/. Rightclick on /etc/issue, select "preview in embedded advanced text editor"

to find out for KDE
open Konqueror
click on Help
then select about KDE
or select about Konqueror
it states the version

for Kubuntu
click on the K icon on the menu bar
select Help

In a terminal input:

cat /etc/issue

Thanks all. I'll try these options next time I'm out there working on his PC.

While I'm here, is there a migration path to upgrade his install to the most recent version without reinstalling?
