    Trouble configuring xorg

sorry for the bump, but i am having trouble configuring xorg

when i select the desired color depth, the command line comes back up and shows

xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20070605225435

    That's normal, IIRC.

unfortunately, it stops at that point. xorg is only half configured so i can't connect to the internet and i have no sound.

This message usually means that it has finished. And color depth is the last question.

Xorg has nothing to do with internet connection.

Did you try to restart (either kdm or the computer) after dpkg-reconfiguring?

        Javier.

yes, restarted the computer. and that's when i noticed the LAN light on my motherboard was off. it comes on when the computer starts but once it hits kubuntu it shuts off.

            Re: Trouble configuring xorg

            LAN and xorg.conf are unrelated.

Does the computer boot to the GUI?.

And does networking work (I mean, can you connecto to the net)?

            Javier.

found the problem, my motherboard murdered the onboard ethernet and onboard sound. put in an ethernet card lying around the house and it worked. sorry for my previous thread hijack.
