    Kwallet questions

    Hi,
    I'm new with the KDE version of Ubuntu. Been using Ubuntu for about a
    year, so have accumulated over 100 passwords. Is there any way of
    importing them from Revelation in Gnome Desktop to KWallet in KDE
    desktop? I tried to create an *.xml of my Revelation passwords but there
    is no way to import them into KWallet the program keeps asking for a Wallet?

    Can it be done? OR is there a better password manager that I can use? I know I can use Revelation on the KDE desktop and I am right now, BUT would like to learn the KDE programs.

    Thanks, gpw1

    Re: Kwallet questions

    Basically there are two stages of kwalletmanager. The app and then the wallet (think of it as a folder). Once you create the wallet, you can open it and go to File --> Import XML. Hope this helps.

      Hi,
      Thanks for the reply. BUT, when I do as you tell me I get an error message: XML file does not contain a wallet? Of course it would not contain a wallet. I exported as XML from Revelation Password Manager, a gnome product. All I want is to transfer my exiting Gnome passwords to Kwallet. Can I do that? OR do I need to enter them all over again?

        let me export mine to check the structure. Maybe all you need to do is change some entries in your XML file.

          I guess I can assume that you cannot import XML files into Kwallet? I know they do not have any import "help files".

              Here is the structure: Hope it helps.

              Code:
              <wallet name="kdewallet">
               <folder name="Form Data">
               </folder>
               <folder name="Kopete">
                <password name="Account_MSNProtocol_youraccountname">password</password>
               </folder>
               <folder name="Passwords">
               </folder>
               <folder name="kmail">
                <password name="account-somenumberhere">password</password>
                <password name="account-somenumberhere">password</password>
               </folder>
              </wallet>

                Re: Kwallet questions

                Thanks for your response...

                I would appreciate a little help here; Where do I insert this code? Does Kwallet have a config file?

                The program asked for an "import file" with the suffex .xml, I created a file with a suffix .xml and then the program responded with "something concerning what Wallet to use"? with no place to choose or insert a new Kwallet.

                I'm new with Linux so was stumped here, I refered to the "Kwallet help" and there was nothing about "Import" in the help file.

                What steps do I need to do to incorporate your code to include my "other .xml" file with my current Kwallet data.

                I never set up this Kwallet program, when I installed Kubuntu, it was set up for me when my Wireless Network WPA2 was configured. This KWallet Program remands open as long as I use my Network which is on all the time.

                Is this smart to also use this same Kwallet and include my extensive personal data, to be open at all times? OR should another Kwallet be used for my passwords?
