I have xboard installed and need gnuchessx. How do I do that as I can't find it in apt.

I found a package that's called gnuchess (no x on the end), which says it's compatible with xboard. Could that be what you're looking for? It says it's in the universe repositories, so if you don't have those enabled, maybe that's why you're not finding it.

I managed to load Pychess which now works with crafty. Couldn't find gnuchess or gnuchessx.

gnuchess is in Universe (which you've already got):

Try hitting the "fetch updates" button and see if that helps...

Thanks for the help. I now have xboard working with gnuchess. I have two ways of using apt. One is Add/Remove Programs which calls adept installer which does not find gnuchess and the other is Adept Manager which does.
