    x or kde start problem

Mid December 06 I had this problem - but none of the ideas back then do the trick.

I get to the graphical log in - give the correct info - and is taken back to the same log in screen.

Then I go console log in, cd to my home directory, type sudo startX - and get in to where the small icons are loading across the screen, and after some time I just have a light blue screen. Nothing else.

Any ideas - or should I just conclude that Kubuntu isn't for me?

Looks like a(nother) case of "disk full" to me ... therefore - ad hoc - my suggestion: df (?).

Thank you; df did reveal that one of the two disks was full, so I'm back.

But then another question arises - how can I find what files(s) have filled the /home disk? It should not be near full at all. I need some utility to find the size of folders and files. It 's probably just under my nose (if that makes meaning in English) to see ... but all I can do is find the rest of the disk.

          I'm using filelight:

          http://www.methylblue.com/filelight/
Filelight creates an interactive map of concentric segmented-rings that helps visualise disk usage on your computer.

It is like a pie-chart, but the segments nest, allowing you to see not only which directories take up all your space, but which directories and files inside those directories are the real culprits.
          It's also in the repositories.

Do you use preview pictures/thumbnails ?
          Clean your KDE thumbnail directory
          http://www.kenschutte.com/clean_thumbnail_dir/
By default, when KDE generates thumbnail images for konqueoror, it saves them in a directory, ~/.thumbnails, so they can be quickly retrieved next time. It retrieves them based on the filename and path, so anytime your rename or move an image, that old thumbnail will sit there wasting space and I've found that can quickly add up.
