Where does Kubuntu store program data

Where does kubuntu store program config files/ data/config files etc.

In windows it is generally easy to find where application data is stored but I cant seem to find anything similar in kubuntu to the windows Program files, or local settings /Application data etc.

I am particularly having problems with two programs
    Smb4k and Kstars planetarium programs.

I have tried to do a complete removal in synaptic, a re boot, and a re install, but old data fromthe first install is still there in the fresh installations.

In Smb4k case, it still thinks the local machine has an old IP address, and it not picking up the current one from the router, although samba and ifconfig show the correct IP address.

In KStars it is the location database. I created an entry for my local town, and managed to do it incorrectly 3 times due to getting the lat/long coco ordinate format wrong.

    Anyone?

At the time that you want to uninstall something you will see 2 ways to go Remove and Completely remove (purge). I would suggest that u try the purge option to see how it goes.
In Linux there is no dll or cab files, it's all "text" files

        Kde programs:

        /home/user/.kde/...

        So kstars:
        /home/user/.kde/share/apps/kstars/
        and
        /home/user/.kde/share/config/kstarsrc

        Other prorgams

        Check /home/user/... (hidden files)

        Example:
        Scribus => /home/user/.scribus/...
        Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

well, that helped for Kstars, but not for Sbm4k. still no nearer to getting it to recognise the correct IP address
