    I need Last.FM

I've used Ubuntu in the past, and Damn Small Linux, tried FreeBSD, and so on. I am loving this Kubuntu, but I just can't figure out how to install and use my life's blood... Last.FM.

Can anyone help me? I'm not too nub, but I still need quite a bit of help. If anyone could give me some help to get the new Last.FM setup working, and try to make it as understandable as possible, I would love you a ton! :P

    Thanks in advance.

lastfm is a package listed in Adept Manager (KDE | System) that you can flag for installation. The Debian site identifies the package as 'edgy' so it should be in the activated default repositories within Adept. If you don't see it, then you may need to active the universe repositories.

Go to the last.fm website. Download the .deb (at http://www.last.fm/download/ - on the right) Click on this and install.

Don't you mean right-click? A left-click only opens the .deb file with Ark, allowing you to extract the contents. A right-click gives you the option to choose to use the Kubuntu Package Manager (Adept) to perform the installation.

I didn't know about the .deb stuff. Cool.

I tried it but it told me there was a dpkg dependancy error. So I am guessing, just shooting in the wind here, that I need to install something else. :P

          Edit:

I tried to copy the info it gave me, but it didn't work. So I'll typ eit out.

dpkg: dependency problems precent configuration of lastfm:

lastfm depends on libglib2.0-0 (>=2.12.0); however:
Version of libglib2.0-0 on system is 2.10.3-0ubuntu1.

lastfm depends on libqt4-core (>=4.2.0); however:
Version of libqt4--core on system is 2.1.2-1ubuntu1.1.

lasfm depends on libqt4-gui (>=4.2.0); however:

Which method of installation did you try? Using Adept (IMHO) is better. If you can see the package for installation in the search, then when flagged for installation, it will pull all needed dependency packages.

I just typed up the .deb errors I recived. When I checked the Adept for the package, it told me that it is broken. I'll see if I can grab exactly what it says instead of just "it's broken, halp!"

              Edit:

Ok, it says BROKEN (installed)... I'm going to mark it for removal. I wonder why it is telling me thus. - There, removed.

So, how would I go about editing those dependancies so I can install?

That sounds like you tried to install the .deb file outside of Adept (I've done that myself). The problem with doing it that way, is that if there are dependencies that are not met in the installation (the required files are not installed on you system), then the installation fails completely (at best) or does a partial (broken) installation. In the last case, Adept will see the package as BROKEN. Adept can be used to unistall the broken package. Then, use Adept to install it. I did this last night with a personal finance package (KMyMoney2). I pulled down the .deb file and used dpkg to install it. It failed with missing dependencies, but got partially installed (BROKEN). Adept cleaned it up, and after activating the universe repositories, Adept pulled and installed the package correctly.

Ok. I'm trying the Adept, but everytime I try to request the install, it isn't doing a thing. I've used Adept before, and I know that the Requested should have changed to Install. But everytime I do, my system lags a little and then nothing changes. No Apply Changes buttons, no nothing.

Okay, good to know that you are familiar with Adept.

Go to manage repositories and activate the two universe repositories. Apply the change and then force a check for updates. This will rebuild the information concerning available packages and such for Adept, and will be necessary given that additional repositories were activated. Once done, try to flag the package for installation. My guess, given my experience last night, that it will work.

Tried it. I had the repositories all setup already, so I disabled applied, fethed the update, and then set them back up and fetched. Still nothing. Is there a certain repository I need to setup other then the ones there already? It just won't flag for installation. I have no clue why.

Thanks for the help. I figured out a way to get around it. What I did was run the .deb file which gives me a broken installation. Once there, I could request a reinstall, thus getting around the inability to flag a fresh install. From there it used the repositories required and got it all finished up. I haven't tried the program yet, but from Adept, it says I'm installed and working.

Glad to here that! I'm sure that if Adept shows a successful installation (it isn't BROKEN) then the application should work just fine.
