Efficient start up of OS and Applications (Resolved - thanks)

    Hi.

It's a lovely bank holiday here in the UK (i.e. it's raining cats 'n dogs) so I thought I would raise a poser.

I'm fairly new so still playing with bits and pieces in Kubuntu.

I have found it is not that quick on start-up and loading applications. I have used some of the programmes available for getting rid of orphaned packages and other things but can anyone point me in the direction of system 'speed tweaks'? I would like to learn a bit more about what libraries etc should be retained and what kernal etc. so that I can 'clean-up' the system on a regular basis and also know why and what I am doing.

    Thanks.

It's cloudy but dry up here in Scotland. Glad you're enjoying the break.

Thanks for the link - it's bookmarked!

I'm in the process of reading it all and experimenting as I go.

You can also google/linux for "speed up kubuntu" and get a number of useful tips. One of the best if you think your apps are starting slowly is prelinking: See this blog. The author has a couple of other useful tweaks on his blog as well.

There used to be a whole site about speeding up KDE, but I can't find it any more

          Thanks for the last.

I'm still getting used to using the net properly although sometimes you find too much info. Your Blog was interesting and is bookmarked.

          Cheers.
