New installed apps not appearing in menu [or anywhere else]

I'm running Edgy on an IBM T60 [dual-boot with XP....ugh!] ThinkPad. Have tried many distro's and I think I've found The One for me.
Anyway, I'm upgrading and installing apps using Adept [no issues] but am wondering if there is a way to auto-add new apps to the menu. Currently I just create a sym-link to the Desktop or add them onto the taskbar to access them but it's becoming tedious as there are over 20k goodies I can install over the net. That's a lot of sym-links.

    Hmm - there is:

    Kappfinder
    non-KDE application finder for KDE
kappfinder searches your workstation for many common applications and
    creates menu entries for them.
    In the konsole:
    Code:
    :~$ kappfinder

KDE aplications should appear automagically in the menu.
If not -> KDE menu editor will add it.
Highlight an item in the section of K-menu you want to edit and right click. A menu will appear, click "Edit Item" option and left click. KDE Menu Editor starts. Now you can add a new submenu or new program.

Copying program from menu to desktop.
Left click (and keep) menu item and drag it to the desktop, release and popup will ask: what do you want to do.
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?
