Re: GRUB splash and boot splash

First, install grubsplash with Adept Manager, and gimp if you haven't already.

Here is the full deal on how to roll your own splash images:

    http://ruslug.rutgers.edu/~mcgrof/grub-images/

Where it says "14 colors only", I have found that 16 colors works too. The rest of the instructions are all correct. Find an old photo that you like, or grab an image off the 'net, then use gimp to get it down to 640 x 480, 16 colors, as per the instructions, then gzip it and copy it up to your grubsplash folder. Try it, and then yell for help if you get stuck.

The finger print is easy. It should already be there for you to use. At least it was in dapper and now in feisty. If not download it and goto system settings. It should be under splash screen or something. If it is not on the list just click on the add button and navigate to where you downloaded it to.

For the grub splash they point you to a great how-to on the page. Just replace gedit with kate.
      ~$sudo make me a sandwich
