...If all you want is the JRE, you don't need the Sun package, you could use Blackdown package instead. You can even use the Gnu GCJ package instead of the Sun SDK, but I think you should try your local repos first.
Being the clueless newbie again...could you tell me how to get the Blackdown package? Thanks much.
The package is called "j2re1.4". Here's the package description:
Blackdown Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition
The Blackdown Java-Linux Java 2 Runtime Environment contains the Java
virtual machine, runtime class libraries, and Java application
launcher that are necessary to run programs written in the Java
progamming language (this includes the Java 2 Plug-In for Netscape
and Mozilla browsers). It is not a development environment and
doesn't contain development tools such as compilers or debuggers.
For development tools, see the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition (package
j2sdk1.4)
NOTE: You must accept Sun's EULA prior to successfully installing
this package
The requirement that you accept the Sun EULA means that Adept is proably not the best way to try to install this package.
