I just installed Kubuntu on my computer. I am having problems with the multi media. Kaffeine keeps closing down, and will not play a dvd. I sent a bug report. What else can I do.

Re: Kaffeine
Taking your questions in reverse order:
(1)You install things by using your "package manager". The one that comes with Kubuntu is called Adept and you find it on the K-menu under "System". Just click on it. But first read this page at the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki However that won't help you with Kaffeine.
(2)You don't need a new version of kaffeine, you need to install libdvdcss2. But that requires that you activate an unofficial package repository called medibuntu. See this page at the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki.
(3)What you need to do to get dvd's to work is to install libdvdcss2. Please check out this page at the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki Do you see a pattern here?

Re: Kaffeine
As is sometimes true, the trials of others who have had the same/similar issues and who solved them, you might find my thread on my Kaffiene/DVD issue helpful.

There are other mediaplayers (two examples):
Mplayer
Description: The Ultimate Movie Player For Linux
It plays most mpeg, avi and asf files, supported by many native and win32
DLL codecs. You can watch VCD, DVD and even DivX movies too. The other
big feature of mplayer is the wide range of supported output drivers. It
works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, but you can use SDL (and
this way all drivers of SDL) and some lowlevel card-specific drivers (for
Matrox/3dfx/SiS) too! Most of them supports software or hardware scaling,
so you can enjoy movies in fullscreen.
Description: multimedia player for all audio and video formats
VLC is the VideoLAN project's media player. It plays MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG4,
DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, mp3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, and multimedia
streams from various network sources...
