Kubuntu 6.06 was flying along on a 800MHz Pentium 3 machine with 512MB RAM until I updated Ktorrent from 2.1-0unbuntu2-dapper1 to 2.1.4-0ubuntu1-dapper1. Now the system just crawls. Some applications, such as Open Office word processing, will just not run at all; some will run very, very slowly.
There were three updates available thru Adept at the time I updated. Ktorrent, libsnmp-base and libsnmp9. I installed all three.
On another machine with similar specs, I took only the lib updates and passed on the Ktorrent update. No issues on the second machine. System performance is still impressive.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to regain system performance? I was tempted to uninstall Ktorrent and received a warning that an uninstall will effect the KDE desktop. I'm still new enough to be quite nervous about messing with the desktop, so I backed out of the uninstall.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
