How to avoid cropping by Gimp rotate

When I rotate a non-square image thru 90 degrees in Gimp, the result is limited to the outline of the original image. Example: 15 cm x 10 cm rotated thru 90 degrees gets cropped to 10 x 10. How can I avoid this?

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds good, but how do I do it? I can't find that in the help.

      Thanks for your hellp.

The "Rotate" tool in the toolbar can only rotate layers, selections or paths. Right-click the image, Image -> Transform -> use the rotate options in there to rotate the whole image.

          Thanks, that did the trick!

Now can someone explain to me why Gimp has 2 rotate tools which are entirely different? Historical, maybe?
