mp3 support install drives me nuts,

Ok, I changed source files but each time I try to play an mp3 it asks me if I want to install and then I cannot press the install button and then when I try to quit it reads:

    the window named: unsupported
    mp3 amarok is not responding
this window corresponds to the application
    amarokapp(identifient : 5657 machien localhost )

if you close this program your stuff will be lost

So what do I do now then, thanks

Re: mp3 support install drives me nuts,

I never had any problems playing mp3. Perhaps try to reinstall Amarok?

Re: mp3 support install drives me nuts,

      install Xmms

its far superior to amarok imho, and it comes pre-installed with *.mp3 codecs.

however, you could just use adept to install teh mp3 codecs manually, and continue to run amarok.

also, try and do a full upgrade of your system, as the problem may have been bug fixed recently.

thanks, can one uninstall amorok replacing it with Xmms

for the moment I will try to get this working from another network since I seem to remember that the rooter is closed here and that might be the reason.

Re: mp3 support install drives me nuts,

Given you've uninstalled amarok this is probably a bit late but for future reference you just need to add the package 'libxine-extracodecs' using adept. Then restart. Amarok should now play mp3s. I had the same problem as you with amaroks install mp3 codecs button causing the program to crash.
