i tried installing eboard chess thru adept. all went fine installing. but i cant find the program on my menu or games menu.

Have you tried going to the KMenu > Run Program and typing

eboard

? Sometimes programs do not include a menu entry in the installation package, and you have to add it in manually.

You may wish to try out Knights, simply install the 'knights' package from Adept - it's a nice chess program for KDE.
