error while trying to mount a usb drive.

Normally when i wanted to look at files on my 2gb usb drive i just plugged it in and everything showed up. But now when i do this it comes up with an error like this.

could not mount device

the reported error was:

mount: can't find /dev/sdb1 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

Anyone have any ideas why this happens and how to fix it? running 6.06 LTS if that makes it any easier.

Can you post both, your /etc/fstab and /etc/mtab files for review?
