live cd desktop crash : cant install!

    Hi, another newbie issue here.
Downloaded and burned the iso file. Live CD loads and installs on my Dell but on my Toshiba SAtellite Pro 4600 Laptop I get a number of KDE crashes, the install icon never appears on the desktop and the whole thing hangs and runs very slowly.

As it works on the Dell I assume this is a hardware/driver issue on the Toshiba.

Any suggestions? Would I be better trying the alternate CD?

Is my system just too old and cranky? Although it runs XP like a dream.

    Any help appreciated.

What kind of video device does the Toshiba have? Also, does it have any built-in wireless? Are you able to boot from into safe video mode?

Some Toshiba Satellites do NOT have a basic configurable BIOS. They require windows software to make modifications to the BIOS. Because of this, certain things that would need to be configured in order to allow you to install, can not be configured. You would need to consult the Toshiba Support page to make sure your system isn't part of this wonderful efficient solution brought to you by Toshiba.

Really?? I've never used a Toshiba before, so I wouldn't know. That really makes a system inefficient if some of the base BIOS isn't assessable. I've been saved through the BIOS many a time!
