    No sound in headphones

To day i decided to go over to the "free side" so i installed Kubuntu on my Macbook.
But after a while there where no sound in my headphones and there where a red light where i put the headphones in.

I have no idea of what it could be but a guy on IRC said that i have to "activate" the headphones.

I don't know McApple's hardware but is it an internal soundcard or external?

Did the IRC guy know you had an McApple but used kUbuntu - guess there was a function in OS X where you could activate headphones. It might have tried saving some power for you.

Anyway, replacing OS X with Linux doesn't really bring you anywhere new, så I would resore the original OS.

You do have on-board sound enabled in the BIOS do you?

Tell us about the red light.

On my external sound card, there is a red light in the headphone jack. I have no idea why it it backlighted red.

Is your read constant or is it green when the sound is on?

Some people say it is because its locked on optical sound.

It never turns green, constant red.
