Re: just installed Kubuntu 6.10 how do i get a gui
i'm quite new to linux too, but have been playing with it for a while, so if i'm wrong, don't make a big deal out of it and please correct me.
When i do not get a gui after a fresh intall, i always try the combination ctrl - alt - f7 or ctrl - alt - f8. that is when you already of X running. If X is not running, then type startx at the command prompt. This should get at least the gui login screen up.
hope this help

yes, startx should work. If not, something in your Xorg.conf could be wrong.
at the prompt type :-
Code:Sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
that will prompt you to go throug all your video stuff, and enable you to configure it to a working state.
