How to just uninstall ONE program!!!

    Hi,
I recently installed the kubuntu-desktop package and it installed EVERYTHING. I don't WANT Quanta Plus, ANY of the edutainment stuff, most of the games, and a ton of the utilities. But when I try to uninstall them, it often also removes the kde or kubuntu-desktop package. How do I JUST get rid of one package?

    Using 6.10

the package kubuntu-desktop is a metapackage, its sole purpose is to depend on number of packages, in this case all the things that define kubuntu. It can be uninstalled, and this way you can uninstall some things, say you didn't want amarok. If you try that it would remove amarok and kubuntu-desktop, as well as any program/library/etc that needs amarok.

quanta plus is not installed via kubuntu-desktop the packagekde is a metapackage that installs just about [i]everything[i] related to kde, including the proverbial kitchen sink but I believe kde-devel is the metapackage that installs quanta. feel free to uninstall a package like quanta, let it also uninstall kde-devel it is perfectly safe.

As to kubuntu-desktop, I recommend reinstalling that package before any major upgrades to make sure any new/updates stuff gets installed

So, if kubuntu-desktop gets uninstalled, it's OK? I don't have to re-install it?

only at upgrade time, as there are usually new packages added to its list, otherwise you are just fine
