Access NTFS drives through VMWare Kubuntu setup

I've played around with Ubuntu a little bit and than recently found out that Kubuntu is the same thing with a different GUI, one a bit more like Windows, so I thought I'd look into it.

I decided to try installing Kubuntu in VMWare Workstation on my XP machine. It worked without a hitch (btw - I have a amd64 system). However, when I run the fdisk command to see how my NTFS drives are listed they don't show up at all. Only VMWare drives appear to show up.

Is there a way to get to my NTFS drives in XP with this type of setup, where Kubuntu is running as a virtual machine, or am I out of luck?

Sorry pal, You are flat out of luck.

The way VMware works, is it runs ona virtual hard drive. AKA its hard drive is not physical, its just a file containing all the data on it. VMware is designed so that the virtual computer is exactly that. A computer. It's as though it is 100% a different computer. hence they are separate and can only interact as two physical computers would.

You can install vmware tools, then enable the share folder function. your shared folders can be found in /mnt/hgfs/. Last time i did this, i think i share the whole disk.
      hope this help

Great idea live4nothing. I was talking to a friend last night who recommended setting up Samba in order to access the Windows shared partition. I think I'll try your idea first. Can you (or anyone) point me to a how to that walks me through this?
