    KDE su error

    Hey,
When I try to change some stuff in the internet connection section of the system settings, i press the button that says, "Administrator mode" at the bottem.
Then it says KDE su error.
    Anything I can do here?
Also, i typed su into konsole
it then asks me for the password.
I type in my user password and it says it is wrong.
That is the only password it asked me to set up.
    Anything I am doing wrong?
    Thanks Guys

    Re: KDE su error

when does it say KDE su error? After you type the password, or are you not able to type the pass at all.

SU is disabled by defauly. read this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo

what you would type to get into system settings already as root is:
    Code:
    kdesu systemsettings
your pass is your usernames password.

    Thanks for the correction Patrick!

            Re: KDE su error

are you sure your typing sudo? Your sudo password should be the password you login with.

Oh, check if your a sudoer... oh wait, that won't work because you need sudo to acess it...

How do you login if your user pass is wrong? Do you have more than one account? If so, try sudoing with the other account(s)

              I have one account
I set up one password, (thats all it asked me)
              I Type it correctley.
              I type the password in.
              Says i am wrong.
Would it have something do do with the fact that i'm not connected to the internet?

                Re: KDE su error

No, it sounds like your trying to su root.

There is a diffrence between sudo, and su root, and one of them, is what passwords work. If you havn't set up a password for root, then ANYTHING you type will be wrong. You shouldn't have to log in as root, or set a password to it. Now, if you do what he said

                sudo systemsettings

it will come back with a password box, use your password, it will give you root permissions for I believe 15 minutes.

This is done to protect you, me, and other newbies. Mainly protecting them from doing things like "Cleaning up" all those extra "Un-needed" folders...in care they don't have common sense.
(There is no patch for human stupidity, perhaps KDE 3.5 will impliment a "mkcomnsense" command )

Not that! (anything but that) you'll mess up your system.

                  See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo

                  Code:
                  kdesu systemsettings
Have you installed the patched kdebase package?

Being new to linux and kubuntu this might be wrong but with a system that I was setting up I used a 9 digit password and then system services would not let me in. I reinstalled and used a seven digit password and now have sudo access and it accepts my password. Just a thought about the password being to long should not matter but it might someone using linux would know for sure.

I'll see if that might work. This is such a drag it's like building a computer and not having it start up the first time. Then you gotta take it apart bit by bit to see what went wrong.
