Have you installed all required packages for DVD playback?

As far as I know yes, I searched DvD on Synaptic and downloaded everything that looked relevant including various media players. Some wmv's and mpeg's I cannot play too. It seems as if it doesn't even read the dvd well and gives an error saying you may not have enough permissions. I will try going into root and changing permissions to my username and see if that helps.

        Specifically have you loaded libdvdcss2?

Yes, libdvdcss2 is the most important in regard to DVD playback.

Enable all repositories then install libdvdcss2. DVDs will now work in Kaffein.

Oh yeah, sorry libdvdcss2 is not in a repository.

If you have a standard 32bit PC paste these lines into konsole and press enter (one line at a time).

                    wget -c http://www.debian-multimedia.org/poo...2-0.0_i386.deb

                    sudo dpkg -i w32codecs_20061022-0.0_i386.deb

                    wget -c http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/d...2.1-1_i386.deb

                    sudo dpkg -i libdvdcss2_1.2.1-1_i386.deb

                    sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts ttf-xfree86-nonfree

                    You may also want to:

                    add repository:
                    deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu edgy-commercial main

                    then instal:

                    RealPlay

                    flashplugin-nonfree

                    libxine-extracodecs

                    sun-java6-bin
