Kate tries to open folders

I was in my home folder and wanted to create a new Kate file; unthinkingly I right clicked a bare space within the home folder and chose "open with"...kate. What made matters worse is that I checked the box that says"always use this program"

Now, whenever I try to open any folder Kate tries to open it! Of course, Kate can't open a folder, so an error message is displayed- "the file 'file:///home/myfolder' could not be opened; it is not a normal file it is a folder".

Well, that's a fine mess I've gotten myself into. Being as I don't know how to un-screw this screw-ip, I throw myself down before you, and beg that someone with a merciful heart will lend me a hand.

try this:

1. Open Konqueror, and go to Settings-> Configure Konqueror
2. Choose File Associations -> Inode -> Directory

See what you got there, you should have "konqueror"

woohoo!

I went to Settings-> Configure Konqueror->
Associations -> Inode -> Directory and there was:

Kate
Konqueror

Just deleted Kate, and now eveything works as smooth as warm butter!
