¿What are you trying to achieve?

Syslinux is an boot system that is not usually used to boot desktop systems.

          Re: From Grub to Syslinux.

It's for booting from floppy disk, network or CDs.

For everywhere but a normal linux filesystem .

BTW, you should probably know that grub can look quite better than the default *ubuntu version.

Just look at the first google image shot:

          Check:

          http://ruslug.rutgers.edu/~mcgrof/grub-images/

          And install package grub-packageimages.

          Javier.

Neat ... I just copied this file to /boot/grub, edited menu.lst accordingly - et voila: GRUB cool 8)

Looks pretty fine, exactly what I was looking for. And and not difficult to do according to the link.
              /ty all.

On "Debian Linux feat. Kubuntu", it's almost easy: http://www.penguin.ch/dokuwiki/doku....n:boot#remarks

                  Re: From Grub to Syslinux.

OK, I'll take this thread the rest of the way off topic ...

How exactly does one create the correct 640x480 image? I took an image that was larger, and using gimp cut it down to 640x480, 1 raster layer, saved it and gzipped it. But it still does not display correctly -- but "debsplash" and the other "canned" images do great. So it's something about my image file that is not quite what the display is looking for.

Who can advise on the process of perfecting the .xmp image?

                  Thank you.

GREAT -- thanks, U.R. It's obviously the 14-color thing biting me -- I'm studying -- gimp has changed since 2003 and the stated method doesn't work today. But, some method does ....
