Power management?

Being a laptop, power management is very important. Where are the setting for this? I'd like my computer to go into hibernate if left idle for very long.

If you are using Edgy or Feisty, you should have a battery icon in your taskbar. Right clicking on that would give you the options you seek. I can't remember Dapper at all.

IIRC then in edgy you can't configure power manager to suspend to disk/ram if left idle

BTW, I`m also having a laptop.
When I choose "hibernate" - or simply close my laptop - it takes about a minute, before it stops fans, hdd and goes black screen.
After this, when I turn laptop back to life - it goes through BIOS loading, GRUB, and after loading I`m again in my Kubuntu - exactly where I leave the system
Does it need to be that long, and should i install the ACPI from this page -
http://acpi4asus.sourceforge.net/
to make hibernating and special keys working good?

BTW, I`m also having a laptop.
When I choose "hibernate" - or simply close my laptop - it takes about a minute, before it stops fans, hdd and goes black screen.
After this, when I turn laptop back to life - it goes through BIOS loading, GRUB, and after loading I`m again in my Kubuntu - exactly where I leave the system
Does it need to be that long, and should i install the ACPI from this page -

hibernate - also known as "suspend to disk" - does indeed take longer than "suspend to ram"
one simple way to test if hibernate works is to open kate (text editor), type something there and then "hibernate" without saving the document or closing editor, just hibernate - now your laptop should shut down and next time then power is turned on you should find kate open on desktop with the very same text you wrote in there

Yes, it really saves everything as it should That`s means that hibernate really works as it should be!
