I've searched but cannot find. It appears that by default I am in the workgroup "workgroup". Where in Kubuntu do I go to change this? I just cannot find it.

"Workgroup" sound rather micro$oftish to me ... hence my guess: /etc/samba/smb.conf -

I'm new also, so forgive me if I'm way off
System settings > Network Settings > "Your Device" > Domain Name System > Domain Name
By the way, if you do alter /etc/smb/smb.conf be sure to back it upComment
