Video card compatibility with Kubuntu and HP x4000

I have an HP x4000 dual Xeon work station that has an ATI Fire GK4 video card that I have been unable to get to work with Kubuntu, even after reconfiguring it in several different ways. Rather than go look for a flavor of Linux that does recognize it, I think it would be easier to just find a different video card.

Any suggestions as to what to look for that would be compatible with both the work station and Kubuntu?

    Thanks.

Most anything from the Nvidia family will be easier to work with, IMHO. I put a GeF 7900GS PCI card on my Intel mainboard, and have had no cause for regret. I've run two Linux distributions and 3 different Nvidia drivers on it, and the only issues were pilot error types of problems.
