Ant2ne : Seens like the printer is not yet added to the system.

I see two ways of adding it.

In the add printer wizard instead of hitting scan add the details in the boxes above.

Or at the start of the wizard select another printer and write a complete URI like the one above (guest@WORKGROUP/COMPUTER/PRINTER).

Re: Linux on a Windows Workgroup??

Learned something in school today. I'm taking a WinXP Pro class. And we just finished the chapter on printers. =)

My Printer server is running XP Home edition. Not Pro or Linux. My Book says that an XP Print Server must be Pro. I do know that this Home machine is a server for for the other two WinXP laptops (One Home and one Pro) and it works fine, but perhaps Home just doesn't have what it takes to be a server for other non Windows OSs, Where Pro just might.

And if that is false; Do I need to do something on the Windows Home "Print Server" side to configure the printer as an LPD to accept the LPR? I feel as though I need to do something or install something on the server side for it to communicate to this Linux Client.

No. You don't need to install nothing extra.

Windows XP Home is a perfect printer server via SMB, and Linux is a nice SMB client.

All this LPD stuff is just plain too old. Modern *ix system use cups, a different system.

OK, I'm realy stumped on this.

Help me divide and conquer. Lets assume my Lexmark Driver is no good.

I set up a Windows Printer(driver) named "Printer1" on the computer named "Cygne1" and this printer(driver) prints to a file [ie. port = FILEPrint to File)] Not a port or an actual physical printer.

In this instance, what would I put in the http://localhost:631/ or in the K-System Settings-Printer applet.

If I get this to work, in that it prints to a file on the Hard Drive of Cygne1, then I can assume the printer driver is no good.

          Thanks (still)

Exactly the same URI as before:

            Code:
            user@cygne1/Printer1

              *does a little jig*
I got it to work. I'm not sure exactly what was wrong or how it was resolved. I'd say it was a combo of all that stuff above. The last post really helped a lot breaking down to exactly what I needed to type. I've also had success on some other bugs lately, so maybe fixing those bugs cleaned up my system and stopped whatever was preventing my printer from working

              Thanks

Since I was the bad guy who hijacked this thread - happy you did succeed too!

My guess is; the printer at some point did get codes it did not like - and eventually, got reset ant then, the right ones :-)
