Anybody know a good DVD player for Linux ( Besides GXINE)? Can I get it on Synaptic? If not where can I download it from. Free apps only please. Thanks!

Have you tried kaffeine (xine), mplayer, vlc ?

    Kaffeine Player home
    http://kaffeine.sourceforge.net/

    Mplayer home
    http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

    VLC media player home
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

They are all in the ubuntu repositories.

What do you mean 'free'? Depending on the kinds of dvds you will be playing, youll probably want mplayer codecs pkg as well....tho, on most distros i find that downloading w32codec and libdvdcss is enough......be forewarned that w32 might be considered a free version of a proprietary (Windows) codec and that libdvdcss is legally questionable in some parts of the world.

Having said that, I dont live in the States but have friends who visit bearing dvds and sometimes the region things is just a royal pita, at least on windows.....on linux, with codecs installed, i dont run into playback problems.

An 'unsupported option' is easy ubuntu, a one stop app downloadable by going to the easyubuntu site......i ve had good luck with it and in one or two steps it installs codecs, java, flash, rar unpacking tools....choose what you want. Others have cursed it and 'automatix' bitterly, so mileage may vary.....

      cheers
