    installing beryl

    http://www.freewebs.com/pwnage101/beryl%20problem.jpg
i followed these instructions and got it installed and everything but the tray items show as running programs that appear on the taskbar but now the taskbar doesn't even show and whenever window manager is set to beryl, the bar on the top of every running application disappears. anyone know how to fix it?

    Re: installing beryl

    Hi,

    Are you sure, You've installed emerald-themes ?
If yes, you should be able to choose the theme you want from beryl-manager menu (the icon on bottom) and change it to something else to get your window-decorator working.

    Cheers

This is the famous "missing windows decorator" problem. Here's a little help to get you started on the fix:

      http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewt...hp?f=35&t=1631

Make sure you have Emerald installed -- if not, you might be wise to remove Beryl, install Emerald, and then re-install Beryl. You don't need all 16 of the packages that begin with "beryl-" in the repos -- skip the ones that have a "dev" in their names.

I recommend you avoid wasting your time on Aquamarine with Beryl -- I have done that for you.

On my Edgy system, Beryl typically loads on boot, but loads KDE as the Windows Manager (regardless of how I had it set when I last shut down/restarted). So I have to manually set the Windows Manager to Beryl. It now remembers that I want Emerald to be the default Window Decorator -- earlier I had to reset that on every bootup as well.

Good luck -- it's worth fiddling with it when you finally get it under control.

      EDIT: Little more detail here:
